she didn't know of womanly ways
she didn't see it in herself
she wondered among protea bougainvillea
antheriums birds of paradise
a flower? no a petal
of a woman not knowing
her frangrance enchanted
men who could not bring themselves
to call her name
all they could do was TURN AWAY
their eyes shut tightly
refusing to lose the vision, the scent
of the petal of a woman
the flower meandering
by the hummingbirds
